Summit Artspace in Akron will host its quarterly Akron ArtWalk from 4 to 9 p.m. Sept. 9, with several local venues hosting associated events.

The ArtWalk, whose theme is “Only One Earth: Arts and the Environment,” will take place at Summit Artspace at 140 E. Market St., and other venues.

Summit Artspace will have galleries and artist studios open, as well as food, music and pop-up vendors. Wick Poetry Center will have a table for its Cuyahoga Valley National Park Poetic Inventory where community members can respond creatively to prompts regarding the landscape, culture, history and diverse species of the park. Visitors will be invited to chalk sidewalk squares and paint “art in motion” walls outside with environmental themes. Additionally, 2022 Arts Alive honoree Joe Ott will create a wood-burning piece on-site.

The Akron Art Museum will host a family day, featuring an all-ages film in the Bud & Susie Rogers Garden. Before the film begins at the museum around sundown (about 7:45 p.m.), the garden will be filled with art-making activities, refreshments and entertainment from local makers and doers. Families may bring lawn chairs or blankets. This event is free and open to all.

In addition, the Akron-Summit County Public Library Downtown Branch will allow attendees to participate in a community mural from 4 to 8 p.m. Attendees can also get creative with sidewalk chalk on High Street, browse and check out artwork from the Art Lending Library, and learn about the creative resources and DIY options available in its TechZone.

At 8 p.m., Curated Storefront, The Nightlight Cinema and Rubber City Jazz and Blues Fest will present an outdoor screening of “Miles Ahead,” directed by Don Cheadle and featuring Akron’s own Theron Brown. The 2015 film exploring the life and music of Miles Davis will be shown outside at Outside the Box in TrueNorth Akron, 110 North Main St. An introduction to the film by Brown will take place before the screening. Attendees may bring blankets, chairs and snacks. The screening is free to attend but is rated R.

Curated Storefront’s Clayton Bailey World of Wonders is open from 4-8 p.m. at The University of Akron Polsky Building at 225 S. High St. In partnership with FRONT International, Curated Storefront also presents four galleries at Quaker Square at 135 South Broadway St. Quaker Galleries will have extended Friday hours for ArtWalk from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Also in the Northside District, the Northside Cellar will be open until 5 p.m. and Zeber-Martell Gallery and Clay Studio will be open until 5 p.m.

And, at the City of Akron Rubber Worker Statue, 22 East Mill St., Miriam Ray, the founder of the project, will be present to greet visitors and tell them about the statue.

Parking for ArtWalk will be available in the lot between Summit Street and Broadway Street (43 S. Broadway St.), accessible from Mill Street (but not Market Street).
